My
textile designs are characterized by the use of a broad
variety of inspirations and techniques.
In the past ten years, the main used techniques were felting/printing
and transfer.
At the moment I am designing with different knitting techniques:
relief or prints or a combination of them.
The first knitted textile design collection is inspired
by (the terrain and) buildings of an old malt-house. They
are machine made; these designs will be used for object
art work, fashion design and furniture covering.
An important part consists of a series knittings, made by
machine; these knittings designs (3 D) will be apart of
fashion designs and furniture coverings.
Colour and texture are at the base of all my designs, relief
or the phenomenon "skin" is translated into textile
design, preferably threedimensional.
I was trained as an interiorstylist and a textile designer;
at first I started as a stylist; later on I decided to switch
to textile design only and I am specialized in the techniques
mentioned above. When creating a new textile design, most
of the times I start with the materials instead of sketches
and drawings.
Besides designing my own label ANNE MIEKS of fashion and
interior accessories (items are sold in different shops),
I design in commission for the textile industry and private
persons. Furthermore I design object art work and was given
the opportunity to show some of it in several exhibitions.
